STRESS HORMONES & DIVORCE RISK
The hormones created in your marriage can be a predictor of divorce. In one landmark study of newlyweds, psychologist Janice Glaser, her husband Ron Glaser, and a team at The Ohio State University were able to measure levels of stress related hormone adrenaline and ACTH in newlywed couples. Ten years later these researchers found that, compared to the couples that were happily married, those who were unhappy or divorced secreted 34% higher levels of adrenaline while arguing. They also found that ACTH was twice as high in newly wed wives who ended up divorced or unhappily married. They were able to predict the happiness of newlywed couples ten years later just by measuring hormone levels in their first year of marriage!
